  5. Birthday Wishes

One of the nicest, most thoughtful birthday wishes I ever had came from an unexpected source last year….a friend, but barely even a friend. Someone who is a nice person, a kind soul.

Anyhow, on my Facebook profile underneath my picture I had a verse from my favourite poem ‘The Seeker of Happiness’. And what she said for my birthday was:

‘I wish you that in this year, in stead of ‘the seeker of happiness’ the line that describes you becomes the ‘the founder of happiness’.’

    Simple.

    Beautiful.

Thanks for showing people are good.

  6. The Body. Silk.

Wow, what a weird post for me! I’ve never done a ‘beauty’ one, but I thought ‘why not?’. I don’t know anyone who gives as much love to their skin as I do, so maybe it would be nice to share some of that love and review some of the lovely products which are my routine. The strange title is because I always imagine beautiful bodies to be silky…you know when you slip off a beautiful silk night gown and it kind of just slides away from your body? That kind of nice skin is what I am after!

Skin is probably what I get most compliments on. Ranging from the usual ‘you’ve got really soft skin’ to the more interesting ‘If I was a man, I would just lie next to you all night long and touch your skin, it is just so soft!’ (spoken by a girlfriend as we were having a sleepover. I was really tempted to say ‘well indulge yourself, darling, feel free’). So it’s kind of my thing anyway. And now, when the summer is fast approaching, and the time comes to shed the layers of clothes and show it off - your skincare routine is becoming more and more important. So get your showers ready, and let’s go!

On the left, in the gigantic bottle, my current favourite shower gel: The Foam Call by Soap & Glory. This is a new product, they just launched it a few weeks ago, and I am already in love. Smells kind of fruity, and as expected with the name: it foams well. Yay! But shower gels are kind of a staple item - rarely something special. What I do find makes a difference is a scrub. And on the picture above, behold the Flake Away. Personally, I exfoliate twice a week, every week! I don’t think I’ve ever missed an exfoliation ‘date’, and I find it to be such a pleasure. Is it weird that I love the slightly tingly, scrubby sensation that sugar and salt give to your skin? Not to mention the lovely softness you get straight out of the shower…? Anyway, ramble done - Flake Away is really nice, smells yummy (fruity, sugary) and most importantly, works. I must say that it contains salt, sugar and apricot seeds so it can be a bit rough if you’ve got sensitive skin - you’ve been warned. ;-)

And finally…moisturisation. I really do a bit of pick & mix here, as shown by the three products dedicated to this section of body care. The heaviest: The Righteous Body Butter is the most moisturising one. I do love to use this one straight after exfoliation as it is just so strong. Smells like marshmallow and makes your skin super-soft. On the downside, I find it takes forever to absorb. You might find yourself sitting for an hour waiting for it to get its workings done so you can put your clothes on! So in a more rush hour, I use the Aveeno Moisturising Creamy Oil. Not sure what is the deal with these creamy oils, it seems to be a bit of a trend these days, many companies are launching their own ones. I don’t find it to be very oily at all - to me it feels very much like a cream, but a more divine one. This is probably hands down the best moisturizer I have ever used (seriously!), as it makes your skin perfect and smells of sweet almonds (yum). Finally, there is the Nivea Firming Body Oil which absorbs within seconds and apparently makes your skin firmer. Results are yet to be seen, but so far so good!

And…there we go! My first ever beauty post, how exciting! I am a bit rubbish with explaining smells (everything seems to be ‘fruity’ to me, or in another way food-related) but the products are good and they work, so enjoy! x
